The Kenya Revenue Authority launches nationwide electronic cargo tracking solution

ROCKVILLE, MD, June 10, 2010 — Hi-G-Tek, Inc. a leading global provider of wireless sensing solutions that monitor and capture real time location, security, and condition information about cargo and assets, and Navisat Telematics, an industry leader in turnkey supply chain management and security solutions, have completed the implementation of Kenya’s Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS). With the ECTS in place, the KRA now requires importers, exporters, clearing agents and transporters to comply with the new regulations by installing electronic seals. No cargo under customs control will be allowed to transit Kenya after the end of June without the appropriate tracking devices installed. The ECTS is one of the most advanced systems of its kind in the world and is the first to be implemented on a nationwide basis in Africa.

“Customs’ authorities in many parts of the world are grappling with the problems of significant tax loss, cargo theft, and regulatory compliance,” said Don DeLaski, CEO of Hi-G-Tek, Inc. “Hi-G-Tek’s sophisticated technology and in-depth field experience with cargo security and tracking solutions offer governments the opportunity to solve these problems in a cost-effective way. We are pleased to be the technology provider for the ECTS in Kenya and to be working with our in-country partner, Navisat Telematics, to ensure that all stakeholders come into compliance with the new regulations.”

Hi-G-Tek’s system is unique in that it allows for monitoring not only at the level of the truck, but also at the level of the individual containers or cargo components themselves. This state of the art sensing capability, which is based on a series of patented technologies, is the foundation of the Hi-G-Tek platform.
